Blue Ribbon Supply Company receives USGBC LEED-EB Gold Certification

S SAN FRANCISCO, CA - February 1, 2010 - Blue Ribbon Supply Company, a leading wholesale distribution company, providing a broad range of products and services to professional customers, has been awarded LEED®-EB Gold designation for their headquarters - which includes their office, warehouse and parking complex located in South San Francisco, California.

LEED-EB O&M stands for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design for Existing Buildings Operations & Maintenance. Developed and administered by the USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council), this rating system helps building owners and operators identify and improve ongoing operations and maintenance of existing commercial and institutional buildings. The certification system rewards current best practices and provides an outline for buildings to use less energy, water and natural resources while improving the indoor environment; with the goal of maximizing operational efficiency while minimizing environmental impacts. LEED for Existing Buildings addresses whole-building cleaning and maintenance issues (including chemical use), recycling programs, exterior maintenance programs, and system upgrades.

A LEED-EB Gold Certification verifies that Blue Ribbon Supply has achieved significant improvements in energy efficiency and water use; and developed and implemented programs to dramatically reduce waste to landfill, encourage and facilitate sustainable purchasing, and improve the indoor environmental quality of their building.  Blue Ribbon Supply's office and warehouse building and surrounding property features the use of nontoxic cleaning products, green enhancements such as water-efficient landscaping, the use of natural outdoor lighting, the use of power generated from a solar photovoltaic system, and even small details such as the use of copy paper, plastic waste bags and even floor matting made of recycled materials.  The company has also conducted air quality testing to ensure a healthy building, and has implemented internal recycling and an extensive green cleaning program.
